While I was waiting for a bus on campus this morning, a girl pulled up to the intersection on a bike. It was a nice Schwinn frame, newish, but I noticed immediately that both of her tires were dangerously low... like, FLAT.
Before I could point this out to her, I saw that one of her pedals was also broken off, so she was riding on the metal post. She was also wearing huge headphones (and no helmet) so she wouldn't have heard me anyway.
I came to the conclusion that if you're going to buy an $800 bike, and then not take care of it, and ride it down S. Washington Avenue (one of the busiest streets in the area), then you need to learn your own lessons.
