My mom visited in the second week of the month. Of course, it went by too quickly, but we went to IKEA and the Como Conservatory and out to dinner... and it was a great visit.
I have been seeing a therapist weekly since just before Christmas, and I am getting out of it exactly what I intended to. I am usually insightful enough to know what my problems are, and I have plenty of great friends (and notebooks, and a blog) to share my frustrations with and help me analyze them... but I am looking for more structure. I wanted someone to challenge me, and suggest ways that I can think about my frustrations differently.
I have been working a lot, but things have stabilized. There's a lot of excitement generated around a newish restaurant (especially with great write-ups and reviews), so we are almost always busy. We, as staff, have found our grooves and gotten to know each other very well, and our bosses (the owners) are finally getting a little time to step back and re-charge each week. All-in-all, this is a great business to work for, and I'm proud of what we all accomplish.
I had a certificate for a free acupuncture session at Moe Bodyworks (courtesy of one of my great co-workers), and I used it this morning. The woman who did my work actually decided that we had time for a double treatment, so I had nearly two full hours of amazing relaxation! Using resources in my neighborhood to help alleviate my stress is one of my goals for my semester off, and between therapy, acupuncture and yoga, I feel really good about working on my physical and mental pain.
I had a dinner party on Monday night! My friend Molly was my co-host, and we invited eight guests. It was absolutely lovely, and everyone had a great time.
The Menu:
aperitif - gin, soda, lemon juice and rosemary simple syrup
appetizer - rosemary skewered shrimp with herb-sour cream dipping sauce
main course - roasted chicken with lemon and garlic
side dishes - wild and brown rice with walnuts
sauteed kale with garlic and red pepper
braised fennel, carrots and cauliflower, finished with honey, lemon and dill
(a dish we serve at Blackbird!)
dessert - chai-infused custard-brulee
